Where it fits. Phenolic is the workhorse tread for hot, dry environments. The wheel is molded from resin-impregnated fabric that resists most chemicals, water, and steam without softening, which is why it moves between a cooler and a hot oven without flat-spotting. Hard treads transmit floor irregularity, so specify phenolic where floors are smooth and sealed. This swivel model rotates a full 360 degrees and is normally specified two per cart with two rigid casters at the opposite end, or four per cart where the equipment has to move sideways in tight aisles.
Construction. The yoke is formed from zinc-plated steel for corrosion resistance. It mounts on a 4″ x 4-1/2″ top plate with 3-1/8″ x 2-1/16″ bolt-hole centers. Thread guards are fitted to keep string, film, and debris out of the axle. A 1/2″ steel roller bearing rides on a 1/2″ axle for smooth, low-effort rolling.
Load and duty. The 1,200 lb rating is per caster. Standard practice is to size a four-caster set assuming three casters carry the load, so this model supports roughly a 3,600 lb cart with margin for shock loading and uneven floors. Continuous operating range is -20°F to 190°F.
