Where it fits. Thermoplastic rubber is the quiet, floor-friendly choice. The soft non-marking tread absorbs shock and rolls without the clatter a hard wheel produces on tile and sealed concrete, which makes it a common specification for patient areas, retail floors, and anywhere noise carries. Softer treads trade some rolling efficiency for that quiet. This rigid model tracks straight and is normally specified two per cart with two swivel casters at the opposite end.
Construction. The yoke is formed from zinc-plated steel for corrosion resistance. It mounts on a 4″ x 4-1/2″ top plate with 3-1/8″ x 2-1/16″ bolt-hole centers. A 1/2″ steel Quad X bearing rides on a 1/2″ axle for smooth, low-effort rolling.
Load and duty. The 550 lb rating is per caster. Standard practice is to size a four-caster set assuming three casters carry the load, so this model supports roughly a 1,650 lb cart with margin for shock loading and uneven floors. Continuous operating range is -30°F to 140°F.
About Series 40. Our medium and heavy duty line is engineered to make light work of heavy loads, handling up to 1,500 lb per caster with ergonomics and maneuverability in mind so that a loaded cart stays manageable. The line continues to expand as new industries bring us new requirements.
